JuiceToU Blac Charcoal Cleanse - Review*

I've been wanting to do a cleanse for a while now, especially around this time of year, when the weather is dreary and all of those Winter carbs are causing the dreaded pre-Christmas bloat.
Activated Charcoal has been the latest buzzword - or buzzwords if we're being technical - on everybody's lips, praised for its many benefits, which I'll explain shortly.

JuiceToU are a company that specialises in juice cleanses, all freshly squeezed, packed and delivered to your door. Their fruit and veg juices have been extremely popular over social media, and so JuiceToU have now branched out to offer their new 'Blac' juice, which is an activated charcoal cleanse. They reached out for bloggers to review their 7 day cleanse and I was lucky enough to receive my juices in the post the following week!

So firstly, let me tell you a little about the benefits of Activated Charcoal/Blac juice:
(FYI The Queen has been taking Charcoal tablets for decades and look how fabulous she is)

Stomach bloating - Charcoal absorbs up a lot of the toxins (i.e. gases and bacteria) that contribute to bloating.
Heartburn/Acid Reflux - Heartburn is caused by a build up of acid in the stomach or oesophagus, which is soaked up by the charcoal.
Detoxification - Charcoal's "magnet" like qualities enable toxins hanging around the stomach and gut to cling to it, flushing the body of all that nasty stuff.

So... how did I find it?

Day 1: I got back from work at 10pm, so had an extremely late dinner of roast chicken and veg, and tried my first Blac juice. The instructions say to shake the bottle, which I did, but evidently not enough, as I was left with a lovely black sooty residue on both my tongue, and in the bottom of the bottle.

Ooh lovely
Day 2: So I went to see the midnight showing of The Force Unleashed, which was incredible by the way, even if you're not a fan! Anyway, back to the cleanse; I was actually looking forward to my refreshing little drink when I got home at 3.30am, so I drank my little Bottle o Blac., and then preceded to take off my makeup and watch a bit of Youtube before drifting off into dreamland.

Day 3: Felt nice and refreshed when I got up at 9am this morning, which isn't like me, even considering how late I got to bed last night. Thanks Blac! I've got this charcoal stuff down to a T now; if you shake every now and again between sips, rather than just the once, it makes sure there's no gloopy stuff left at the end. Don't want to miss out on any of the benefits after all!

Day 4: I usually wake up with quite a bit of stomach acid, which can be terribly painful first thing in the morning; and it was today I realised I hadn't had it all week which is pretty darn fabulous.

Day 5: Was up this morning at 6am for work. (crying face emoji) However, considering it was Ridiculous O' Clock and I'd had 5 hours of sleep, I felt strangely energized, as if I'd already had my morning coffee. This didn't slump throughout the day either. Is this the Blac juice working wonders?

Final Thoughts

Taste: I was pleasantly surprised by the taste, which was subtle and reminiscent of a flavoured water, without all of the refined sugar! The alkaline water was very settling to the stomach, the lime gave a lovely freshness, and the agave nectar added a natural sweetener to the mix. Also I absolutely hate having pulp or bits in my drinks, but the fine charcoal powder in this didn't bother me in the slightest; just left a bit of a gritty residue! (I do advise shaking the bottle in between sips to avoid a Volcanic ash-like mound at the bottom though.)

Packaging/Appearance: The bottles are really sleek and attractive due to the monochrome; and the tagline 'Blac is the new black' is catchy and memorable. Bottles are a good size, both to hold and drink; any bigger and they'd be too much just before bedtime.

Results: Firstly it completely eradicated my stomach acid, which is fantastic. I'm not one to get massively bloated however I've been eating a lot of pasta this week and my stomach has stayed a lot flatter than usual, so I can only assume that's down to the juices. Also I've somehow lost two pounds this week, and I made no changes to my diet or lack of exercise routine.

Price Point: £51 for a 7 day cleanse, which consists of 7 juices (advised one per day), with free next day delivery included.

All in all I think that's a pretty good price to pay to flush out all of your toxins either before or after all of the Christmas indulging commences, so Happy Juicing!!
